Wear flat shoes for leg day
I’m sitting here with what looks like a chunky Birkenstock sandal awkwardly strapped to my bare foot, poorly hobbling around on crutches, all because I didn’t wear the right shoes while doing leg day and have pissed off my tendons.
At least that’s the theory. I have to go see a foot doctor who, to quote the RN that saw me, ”can do things with feet that we just can’t”. Modern miracles of medicine.
I hope this is a lesson for you. Don’t wear squishy shoes when doing squats or lunges. Wear flat shoes, or no shoes. Your muscles and bones and tendons don’t like having to flex around and work overtime to keep balance in your soft comfy shoes while you’re doing squats and lunges. Bonus “don’t do this“ if you’re in your mid to late thirties and your body can’t do dumb shit anymore.
Addendum: Someone on the internet might read this and say “duh, I knew that. How come you didn’t know that?” Which I’ll admit: I knew this before I did squats and lunges with squishy shoes. I just didn’t think it would happen to me because I’m “young” and “strong” and do leg day all the time (with the right shoes).
